Adolescence is a perplexing, exciting developmental life stage. It is an age of great promise as well as a period of unique risk. Unlike prior thinking, researchers today delineate adolescence as unfolding between the ages of 12-24 years of age. Adolescence is a period characterised by emotional and physiological changes as well as significant shifts in the development of the brain. The adolescent brain works and responds to the world differently from the brain of either a child or an adult. This talk explores these unique qualities and suggests ways of supporting and guiding adolescence for optimal outcomes.
