Sensory & Emotional Regulation 1: An introduction to sensory regulation

This insightful talk introduces the foundational concepts of sensory modulation and emotional regulation in children, particularly those whose behaviours are often mislabelled or misunderstood. Drawing from both current research and clinical practice, occupational therapist Maude Le Roux explores the overlap between sensory processing and emotional regulation and how these dynamics influence child behaviour.

This talk challenges the over-reliance on diagnostic labels by focusing on what children are experiencing, not just how they are behaving. Participants will gain a working model of sensory modulation, understand its developmental hierarchy, and begin to explore practical strategies for supporting children struggling with regulation. The content is ideal for psychologists, allied health professionals, educators, and parents seeking greater clarity and effectiveness in responding to complex behaviours.
