Working with Posttraumatic Stress: Current and Contextual Considerations

Learn about best practice in working with clients with posttraumatic stress, with Professor Gill Eagle. Gill looks at cognitive-behavioural techniques and EMDR and the core effective components of these, highlighting to practitioners which elements to focus on with trauma clients. Factors relevant to the South African context, such as working with clients exposed to continuous traumatic stress, are addressed, and intergroup prejudice related to traumatic stress is considered. The speaker also addresses the risks of vicarious traumatisation for practitioners, looking at how practitioners can protect themselves from burnout and vicarious trauma.
