During the course of their professional careers, health professionals may be called upon to present expert opinion for court-related purposes. This talk outlines the duties of the expert witness to the South African court, drawing on case law and court procedures. The speaker outlines the duties of the expert witness in terms of ethical and professional conduct. Many health professional feel unsure of or even intimidated by the prospect of being called to testify in court. This talk equips professionals with a clearer understanding of what is required in the expert witness role.
