Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders II: Attachment implications & Therapeutic Modalities

New Zealand

The Peri-Partum Mood & Anxiety Disorders (PPMADS) are prevalent and extremely important to address, as these conditions have a profound impact on both the caregiver and the developing infant. The increased awareness and understanding of these conditions is critical in equipping practitioners to offer the required care and support.

This talk is Part II of a series on the PPMADS by clinical psychologist Joanne Zagnoev. In this talk, Joanne addresses the attachment implications of PPMADS, including the impact on the relationship between the baby and caregiver. The critical role of attachment in infant development and mental health renders these conditions a medical emergency. Joanne then considers the unique therapeutic approaches which are helpful in addressing PPMADS.
