Taryn is a private practicing social worker working therapeutically with children and families using a holistic approach that draws from different modalities - including child-centered and Gestalt play therapy. Taryn has been in private practice since 2018, working closely with a multi-disciplinary team of child therapy professionals. Her career started in the family and child protection field, where she was involved in early intervention, family preservation, foster care support, and statutory services. Her professional training and alignment, as well as her dedication to upholding the uniqueness, inherent worth, and healing capacity of the client systems with whom she works, allows her to work with children and families to empower and strengthen them, and ultimately see healing and growth in their lives.
Taryn holds a Master’s degree in Developmental and Therapeutic Play (with Distinction) from Swansea University (2018) and a B Social Work Cum Laude from Stellenbosch University (2013). Her therapeutic work with children focuses on supporting children aged 3–18 through play-based interventions that foster emotional wellness, resilience, and healthy functioning. She also offers parent support and couples counselling as part of a holistic approach to family wellness.
Taryn has contributed to international academic work, including the publication of a book chapter on play in South African preschools. She has presented a number of corporate wellness talks and engaged in radio interviews as an extension of this. Taryn has also developed and presented CPD trainings for social workers in South Africa on play therapy, as well as talks and trainings for lay-counsellors and children's church volunteers to empower and support their work with children and families.
