The clinical features of ADHD and that of Anxiety disorders in children are different, yet there are many symptoms that may overlap. In fact, the one condition could mimic the other if a diagnosis is made without taking all the relevant information into consideration. Anxiety is the most common co-morbidity of ADHD in children, but it may also be the sole cause of the sudden onset of symptoms that appear to have ADHD-type characteristics. In addition, anxiety complicates the management of children with ADHD who present with both. This presentation will focus on the clinical presentation and management of both conditions and highlight how each diagnosis could impact learning.
