In this final video of the Family Support series for Practitioners, an accessible understanding of the brain’s functions and development over the life-span is presented.
The pre-frontal cortex located at the front of the brain acts like the conductor of a full orchestra responsible for balancing and integrating the individual instruments to produce a balanced harmony.
This is illustrated by using Daniel Siegel’s “Handy Model of the Brain” to show the usefulness of integration, and the converse state of “Flipping your lid.”
Practical exercises that can strengthen the ability of integration, therefore extending the capacity of the window of tolerance (Wise Mind) even under conditions of high and low emotional intensity. This is incredibly useful for family members for themselves in surviving the storm of another’s emotional dysregulation, as well as for the individual themselves.
