Nature vs. Nurture: Understanding the link between psychology and genetics

CPD Courses For Health Care Professionals | South Africa, Australia, Canada & The UK

Recent research shows that mental health - emotions, behaviour and personality are strongly influenced by genetics. This talk explains the complex link between the genes and psychopathology, with a strong focus on the early years of life. The 'orchid and dandelion' genetic concept is discussed as well as the 'differential susceptibility to environmental influences' in relation to emotional and behavioural problems in children. This talk reveals why psychological interventions, parental guidance and constructive improvements to a child's environment are so essential and which children benefit the most from these interventions. It is relevant to all psychotherapists as well as to anyone involved in childcare or other therapies with children.
