Neonatal therapy: an overview

The lecture, Neonatal therapy: an overview, covers key components needed by speech therapists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists working in the neonatal unit. The presentation covers information about the neonatal intensive care unit as well as information about premature and medically fragile children. Following this neonatal therapy as a practice is explored along with the roles of the therapists in the unit as well as the benefits of neonatal therapy. The last part of the presentation covers models of practice, assessment and a basic overview of some of the areas of intervention typically covered by a neonatal therapist. This presentation is a good starting point for any therapist wanting to gain an overview of neonatal therapy and working in the NICU and will hopefully help guide areas for further education and learning.
