The Enneagram's Intelligence Centres & Core Underlying Emotions
· CPD points & talks · Psychologists
This engaging talk invites participants to explore the Enneagram’s three intelligence centres: body, heart, and head, & how they intersect with the core emotional drivers of each type. The session begins by unpacking how these centres process information and influence decision-making, relationships, and our overall orientation to the world. Attendees will then delve into the core emotions that underlie each group of Enneagram types: anger for the body types (8, 9, 1), shame for the heart types (2, 3, 4), and fear for the head types (5, 6, 7). These emotions are presented not just as reactions, but as deep-seated forces shaping self-perception, behavioural tendencies, and interpersonal dynamics. The talk integrates theory and application, offering practitioners a valuable framework for recognising how clients process emotional and cognitive experiences - and how awareness of these patterns can support psychological integration, resilience, and therapeutic progress.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this talk, participants will be able to:

-
Identify the core emotional driver (anger, shame, fear) associated with each centre and its influence on personality structure
-
Analyse the impact of dominant centres on decision-making, relational dynamics, and self-concept
-
Apply the Enneagram framework to clinical practice for greater insight into client emotional responses
-
Support clients in recognising and integrating their dominant intelligence centre for personal development
