This talk was filmed in the weeks following the events surrounding George Floyd’s death and other racially inflected incidents, with the historic impetus of the Black Lives Matter movement in the background. Psychologists Nolitha Tsengiwe and Leanne Stillerman engaged in a dialogue around structural racism, rank & power, white privilege, & oppression of marginalised groups. Nolitha highlights how beliefs are deeply psychological and sometimes outside of awareness, and conditions of safety are required to confront one’s own rank, power, & racialised feelings.
