Neuropsychology of HIV: Effects and Assessment

In this talk, experienced clinical neuropsychologist Digby Ormond-Brown addresses the possible neuropsychological effects of HIV. Digby briefly addresses the pathophysiology of HIV, with a focus on HIV in the brain. He goes on to define HIV-Associated Neurocognitive Disorder (HAND), including the diagnostic terms which refer to degree of severity of impairment. Digby looks at how HAND can be assessed using neuropsychological testing. He also considers the impact of Antiretrovirals. This talk will help you to estimate the likelihood of HAND in patients you work with, to assess for HAND, and to understand which biomarkers are important.?
