Perhaps if you've been a patient, you have wondered what it is the therapist is writing about you if they do write during the session. It can cause a lot of anxiety to see someone scribbling every time you open your mouth! Well-known CBT-therapist and Calabash speaker Dr. Colinda Linde routinely shows her clients her notes which she writes in the sessions in order to manage her client's anxiety.
As therapists, whether psychologists or another professional, we need to develop our own style of writing notes and recording what we think is important. In this short clip, Colinde talks about her process of taking notes during therapy sessions. She explains her thinking and some of the ways that CBT therapists may use the note taking process to build an alliance and further use it as a tool to help a client make sense of their problem and develop a treatment plan. Her overall gentle, collaborative therapeutic approach really comes through in this valuable video
