Speech Therapist and Audiologist, Louise Ashton, discusses the importance of working interactively and collaboratively with parents and caregivers when treating children between 0 and 5 years of age. She explains why it is important to work with parents to ensure they can facilitate change and development in children even when they go home and are not solely dependent on you as a therapist to encourage development. Louise's approach speaks to me as an Occupational Therapist as it is vital that we all work as guides to parents to teach them the necessary skills to be able to create a therapeutic environment for their children and to ensure development of skills taught in therapy at a home level.
