In this talk, Educational psychologist Sheryl Cohen offers a useful and relevant talk on parental counseling. Sheryl covers underlying assumptions informing parental counseling, and then outlines a theoretical model for parental counseling, which serves as a useful compass for those doing this work. She then discusses the application of this model, and offers some insights to assist in dealing with difficult dynamics, including hostile attachments. Sheryl concludes by looking at decisions around when to undertake parent work, and when to offer play therapy with children.
