The Peri-Partum Mood & Anxiety Disorders (PPMADS) are prevalent and extremely important to address, as these conditions have a profound impact on both the caregiver and the developing infant. The increased awareness and understanding of these conditions is critical in equipping practitioners to offer the required care and support.
This talk addresses the PPMADS, looking at the different possible outcomes and associated diagnostic criteria. There are a number of different conditions which can present, and Joanne offers apt clinical examples of how each can manifest.
Joanne then considers the risk factors which can predispose mothers to develop PPMADS, including risk factors originating in the caregiver, the baby, and the surrounding socio-economic context.
This talk is Part I of a 2-part series addressing the PPMADS, where the second talk addresses therapeutic approaches and attachment implications.
