Speech Therapist, Andrea Fourie, discusses the importance of recognising and responding to infant communication. Communication during the newborn phase is especially difficult to identify, Andrea helps therapists and parents look for the non-verbal forms of communication, movement patterns and facial expressions to understand infants better. Andrea's insight provides me, as an Occupational Therapist, the information needed to identify key communication signs from newborn patients and helps me to explain to parents how preferred communication patterns are established and the importance of their response to their newborns.
